Pay gap toolkit
The People Like Us mission is to foster a fairer workplace through equitable pay. We have long advocated for Ethnicity Pay Gap reporting legislation to ensure that Black, Asian, dual heritage, and minoritised professionals are treated fairly.
The recent announcement in the King's Speech by the new Labour government to introduce mandatory pay gap reporting for ethnic minorities and people with disabilities marks significant progress.
If enacted, this new law would be a crucial step in addressing systemic biases in the workplace, aligning ethnicity and disability pay gap reporting with gender pay gap reporting.
People Like Us urges its members, allies, and the wider community to actively participate and share their views in any consultation processes relevant to the legislation.
While the legislation may only apply to larger organisations, our resources are designed to help companies of all sizes create a more equitable workplace for everyone.
Self ID form
For companies without identification data for staff, we’ve created a simple form you can share with your employees. You can:
1. Make a copy on Google Forms by clicking this link. You will become the owner of the form. Send it to your staff by clicking 'send' and adding their email addresses. Each member of staff will only be able to respond once.
2. If you prefer to work offline, download the form as a PDF. To do this, click the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the page, select 'print', then choose 'save as PDF'.
3. Alternatively, you can copy and paste sections of the Self ID form into your preferred system.
Pay gap form
You can view the Pay Gap form here. To download it, click 'File' (top left corner) then select 'Download'. The form includes guidance on how to complete it, and you are welcome to contact People Like Us for further assistance here.
We are a small team experiencing high levels of enquiries, so please bear with us. If you’ve found this tool useful, please drop us a line to let us know how it went.
Why it matters
Voluntarily providing ethnicity pay gap reporting isn’t about calling anyone out. It’s a straightforward way to monitor how people from different groups are paid at each level. We can all agree that no one should earn less because of their skin colour, sexual preference, disability, gender, or any other factor unrelated to their performance.
We have been long-term campaigners for the introduction of ethnicity pay gap reporting legislation, and it’s great progress to see the government include the Equality (Race and Disability) bill in the King’s speech. We will be following it closely during the consultation process to ensure equal pay is legislated.
We’d love to hear your thoughts. If you have any comments or feedback, please drop us a line on our contact page.
